Amelia was born in London in 1974. She began taking photographs in her teens, with a camera given to her by her father.
Self taught, Amelia won The Ian Parry award in 1996 for her work In Dublin on The Ballymun Estate. In 1998, she won a place on The World Press Photo Master class. In 1999, she was shortlisted for The Infinity 'Young Photographer of the year' award by The International Center of Photography in New York.
She is the author of three Solo publications: Trouble with Amelia (Booth Clibborn 2003) Joan of arc had style (Trolley Books 2015) Malta Diaries (Trolley Books 2006). In 2020, saw the publication of four Café Royal book titles: Manchester, Dublin, Soho, and Motorhead.
Her work has been exhibited around Europe, including The Design Museum, Phillips De Pury, Photo London, World Press Photo (Amsterdam) & The Martin Parr Foundation.
She has worked for The NY Times, The Guardian, Sunday Times, Time, Dazed, Tatler, Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Traveller & Vogue.
